Yan Ruyan (燕如嫣) was a cultivator in the Yan Clan, where she was highly regarded due to her Heavenly Spiritual Roots.[1][2]
Yan Ruyan is a cultivator residing in the Heavenly South Region. She is a member of the Yan Clan where she is highly regarded because she possesses Heavenly Spiritual Roots. As a Qi Condensation cultivator she was trusted to attend a secret negotiation with the Ghost Spirit Sect. This negotiation ended with her becoming the Dao Companion of the young master of the Ghost Spirit Sect. As a result of her union, she was bestowed the Great Blood Spirit Arts by the Ghost Spirit Sect.
With a marriage alliance, the Yan Clan officially joined the Ghost Spirit Sect and betrayed the Seven Sect Alliance of the State of Yue. The Yan Clan regularly hosted a Treasure Seizing Assembly for the disciples of the Seven Sect Alliance of Yue. The clan sacrificed the disciples of the alliance that attended as a dowry to Yan Ruyan's future husband. She was given the souls of the deceased cultivators to form her foundation using the Great Blood Spirit Arts.
First Meeting[]
Over a century later Yan Ruyan formed her Core Formation. Additionally, she married her husband Wang Chan. She was invited by her husband to participate in a mission to obtain treasures from the hidden residence of a historically renown cultivator named Cang Kun. Several Nascent Soul cultivators from across the Heavenly South Region participated in the mission. In gathering for the mission she met Han Li. She admired his accomplishment of ascending from Foundation Establishment to Nascent Soul in a mere 200 years.
As a Core Formation cultivator, Yan Ruyan was among the weakest in the group. Luckily, she and her husband were to be protected by Nascent Soul elders of the Ghost Spirit Sect. Thanks to their protection, she successfully entered Cang Kun's hidden residence.
The majority of the Nascent Soul cultivators that had raided the residence were secretly involved in a scheme created by the Ghost Spirit Sect. Once the treasures were taken by the group, the group attempted to eliminate Han Li and Marquis Nanlong. Her husband attempted to provide assistance with his meager abilities in order to stop Han Li from fleeing. Yan Ruyan was shocked when when Han Li unleashed the Yin Devil Execution technique nearly killing her husband. By a stoke of luck, the technique missed his vitals instead severing both legs. Luckily for Yan Ruyan, the resources of the Ghost Spirit Sect healed her husband.
Incident in the Devilfall Valley[]
Years later, Yan Ruyan participated a mission to obtained Devilfall Valley. The Wang Clan selectively invited its relatives from the Ghost Spirit Sect to participate in the mission. She was protected by her husband and other Nascent Soul elders. Unfortunately, her sect was tricked into releasing an Elder Devil which slaughtered cultivators within the valley. Luckily, she safely escaped the Devilfall Valley.
However, most of the Nascent Soul elders were slaughtered. This greatly weakened the Ghost Spirit Sect. Within the sect, the Wang Clan bore the brunt of the losses upsetting the balance of power between various factions. Luckily for Yan Ruyan, her Yan Clan rose in influence eventually obtaining significant control over the sect.
Plea for Assistance[]
Even though the Yan Clan rose to power, the Ghost Spirit Sect as a whole was weak. The Spirit Controlling Sect took this opportunity to expand into the territories of the Ghost Spirit Sect. This sparked conflict that pushed the sect to the brink of collapse. In desperation, Yan Ruyan solicited help from Han Li who ascended to become the most powerful Late-Nascent Soul cultivator within the Heavenly South Region. She prepared gifts to trade for his help. However, she learned that Han Li still held deep enmity with her husband. To receive his assistance, Han Li requested that the sect eliminate her husband. She held complicated emotions for her husband. As a result, other members of her Yan Clan handled the request.
